SHOOTING OF THE NEW GERMAN NETFLIX FILM HAS BEGUN!
Maria Schraders STEFAN ZWEIG: FAREWELL TO EUROPE wins PEOPLE\'S CHOICE AWARD 2017 FOR BEST EUROPEAN FILM
a film by and starring Josef Bierbichler after his novel of the same name
A Bavarian family-saga produced by X Filme Creative Pool Entertainment, Stefan Arndt with BR, WDR, arte, FFF, FFA, MBB, MDM and DFFF.
MITTELREICH, written and directed by Josef Bierbichler, who will also be starring in the film, is based on his novel of the same name (Suhrkamp 2011). Starring Martina Gedeck, Simon Donatz, Sophie Stockinger, Irm Hermann and Sarah Camp.
The filming will take place in the course of 31 days, separated in two parts, one in winter and one in summer, shot in Thüringen and Bavaria.
Tom Fährmann (FRAU MÜLLER MUSS WEG, DAS WUNDER VON BERN) will take on the role as Director of Photography, Josef Sanktjohanser (DER GROSSE KATER, RÄUBER KNEISSL) as production designer,Katharina Ost (GRÜSSE AUS FUKUSHIMA, DAS TAGEBUCH DER ANNE FRANK) will be costume designer, Anette Keiser (DAS WEISSE BAND, 3096 TAGE) as key make up and Karina Ressler (REVANCHE, LOURDES) will be editing the film.
MITTELREICH is a production by X Filme (Producers: Stefan Arndt & Uwe Schott) in Coproduktion with the Bayerischen Rundfunk (primarily responsible), Cornelia Ackers and Carlos Gerstenhauer, Westdeutschen Rundfunk, Sophie Seitz and Arte, Andreas Schreitmüller as well as Monika Lobkowicz (BR / Arte).
The project will be funded by FFF FilmFernsehFonds Bayern, FFA Filmförderungsanstalt, MBB Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, MDM Mitteldeutschen Medienförderung and DFFF Deutschen Filmförderfonds.

Maria Schrader's STEFAN ZWEIG: FAREWELL TO EUROPE has been chosen as the official Austrian entry to be considered for nomination in the Academy Awards' Best Foreign Language Film category.
The announcement of the five films nominated will take place on 24 January 2017. The awards ceremony will take place on 26 February 2017 in the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
